Guangzhou (JLC), April 18, 2023--China's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 4.5% year on year to about 28.50 trillion yuan in the first quarter of 2023, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed on Tuesday.

Compared with the last quarter in 2022, the GDP in Q1 rose by 2.2%.

The country's economic activities picked up steam in early 2023, after China lifted its pandemic-control restrictions in December 2022.

China set a GDP growth target of about 5% for 2023.
