Guangzhou (JLC), April 9, 2025--Sinopec and Saudi Aramco signed a cooperative framework agreement (CFA) regarding the expansion project of the Yanbu Aramco Sinopec Refining Company (YASREF) on April 8, Sinopec reported on its official news website on April 9.

On top of the existing units, the expansion project will build a 1.8 million mt/yr ethylene plant, a 1.5 million mt/yr aromatics unit, and a supporting downstream polyolefin unit.

After the expansion, the refinery will see a step up in its production capacity of high-end petrochemical products.

The CFA was signed in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, by Zhao Dong, the general manager of Sinopec, and Amin H. Nasser, the president and CEO of Saudi Aramco.

They both pointed out that this agreement represented a deeper cooperation between the two companies and expressed their determination in molding the YASREF into a world-class refining-chemical integrated refinery.

YASREF, a joint venture between Sinopec and Saudi Aramco, is located in the Yanbu Industrial City. It processes 430,000 bbl/day of Arabian heavy crude oil and produces oil products and high value-added products to supply for global markets.
