China's foreign trade gains 3.5% in first seven months

Guangzhou (JLC), August 7, 2025--China's foreign trade rose by 3.5% year on year to 25.70 trillion yuan (about 3.58 trillion U.S. dollars) in the first seven months of 2025, according to data from the General Administration of Customs of the PRC (GACC).

 

The country's exports increased by 7.3% year on year to 15.31 trillion yuan, while imports decreased by 1.6% to 10.39 trillion yuan, the data shows.

 

In July alone, China's foreign trade grew by 6.7% year on year to 3.91 trillion yuan, with exports going up by 8.0% to 2.31 trillion yuan and imports climbing by 4.8% to 1.60 trillion yuan.

 

In January-July, the country's foreign trade by ordinary trade gained 2.1% to 16.44 trillion yuan, which accounted for 64.0% of the total. Exports by this trade mode surged by 7.4% to 10.11 trillion yuan, while imports fell by 5.4% to 6.33 trillion yuan, the GACC data indicates.

 

Meanwhile, China's imports and exports by processing trade went up by 6.3% to 4.60 trillion yuan, accounting for 17.9%. Exports inflated by 3.8% to 2.84 trillion yuan, and imports jumped by 10.5% to 1.76 trillion yuan, the data indicates.

 

The foreign trade with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), China's largest trading partner, soared by 9.4% to 4.29 trillion yuan in the period, which took up 16.7% of China's foreign trade. The exports to the ASEAN leapt by 14.8% to 2.71 trillion yuan, and the imports from the organization rose by 1.3% to 1.58 trillion yuan.

 

At the same time, the trade with the European Union (EU), China's second largest trading partner, swelled by 3.9% to 3.35 trillion yuan. The exports to the EU grew by 8.2% to 2.28 trillion yuan, while the imports from it declined by 4.2% to 1.07 trillion yuan.

 

By contrast, the trade with the U.S. tumbled by 11.1% to 2.42 trillion yuan, with the exports to the country at 1.81 trillion yuan, down 11.6%, and the imports from it at 616.74 billion yuan, down 9.3%, the GACC data also shows.
