Guangzhou (JLC), May 9, 2026--China's foreign trade soared by 14.9% year on year to 16.23 trillion yuan (about 2.33 trillion US dollars) in the first four months of 2026, according to the latest data released by the General Administration of Customs of the PRC (GACC) on Saturday.
Specifically, the country's exports increased by 11.3% year on year to 9.33 trillion yuan in the period, while its imports jumped by 20.0% to 6.90 trillion yuan.
In April alone, China's foreign trade grew by 14.2% year on year to 4.38 trillion yuan, with exports climbing by 9.8% to 2.48 trillion yuan and imports leaping by 20.6% to 1.90 trillion yuan, the data shows.
In January-April, the value of goods traded under ordinary trade, processing trade, and through bonded logistics stood at 9.82 trillion yuan, 3.08 trillion yuan, and 2.81 trillion yuan, a gain of 8.5%, 21.3%, and 38.7%, respectively.
During this period, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations remained China's biggest trading partner, with a trade value of 2.75 trillion yuan, accounting for roughly 16.9% of the latter's total foreign trade, calculations based on the GACC data indicate. The figure was 15.7% higher than the same period of last year.
At the same time, China's trade with its second-largest trading partner, the European Union, swelled by 13.2% year on year to 2.01 trillion yuan. Conversely, the trade with the US plunged by 12.9% to 1.25 trillion yuan.
