Guangzhou (JLC), September 22, 2023 – PetroChina aims to boost the proportion of new energy output to 7% of the company’s primary energy production mix by 2025, the oil and gas giant said in its 2022 Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) Report.

In 2021-2025, PetroChina plans to enhance the development and utilization of geothermal, solar, wind and hydrogen powers and other new energy sources, and promote the use of clean energy alternatives in production, the company said.

In addition, it will actively promote the integration and development of natural gas-fired power generation and new energy power generation, PetroChina added.

In promoting the hydrogen industry, the company said it would actively conduct technological research and pilot demonstrations on the hydrogen supply chain.

In 2026-2035, PetroChina will strive to supply an amount of green and zero-carbon energy that exceeds the self-consumption of fossil fuel by 2035, it said.

Also, it will work hard to achieve equal portfolio of new energies, oil, and natural gas, and substantially realize the strategic succession of thermal power, electricity and hydrogen power to the oil and gas business.

For the longer term between 2036 and 2050, PetroChina will strive to achieve “near-zero” emissions by around 2050 and ensure that the proportion of the output from new energies and new industries reaches half of its output as a whole, the company said.
